Adobe Creative Suite 2, commonly abbreviated to CS2, was released by Adobe Systems on April 27, 2005 as the successor to the original release of the Creative Suite series.[1] It was updated to Creative Suite 2.3 on September 18, 2006,[2] and was succeeded by Adobe Creative Suite 3 on April 16, 2007.[3]
Editions[]
There were two primary editions of Creative Suite 2: Standard, which was targeted towards print publishing, and Premium, which added support for web publishing.[4] There were also editions for video production professionals which were released as Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio.[5]
Adobe Bundles[]
After Adobe Systems acquired Macromedia in December 2005,[6] applications from Macromedia Studio 8 were packaged with Creative Suite 2 Premium in special bundles.[7]
End of support[]
On December 15, 2012, activation servers for CS2 applications were shut down. Registered users who wished to continue using these applications after that date could download new installers from Adobe with new serial numbers that could be activated without contacting a server.[8] Some users and websites had interpreted that Adobe was giving these applications away for free, but Adobe clarified that these were only for registered users and required a valid existing serial number to access downloads.[9][10] In May 2019, Adobe stopped providing CS2 downloads entirely.[11]
