Aldus FreeHand 4 is the fourth major release of FreeHand developed by Altsys Corporation and the first to support PowerPC processors. It is also the last major version to be marketed by Aldus (not Altsys) before the company was acquired by Adobe Systems in August 1994.[1] It is feature-equivalent with Virtuoso 2.0 for NeXTSTEP.

Lawsuit[]

Altsys, which had retained development rights, sued to regain marketing rights to FreeHand, citing a non-compete clause because of Adobe's development of Adobe Illustrator. Altsys was then acquired by Macromedia in January 1995.[2][3]
