MacroMind Director 3 is the third major version of the Director multimedia authoring environment, which was developed by MacroMind,[1] predecessor of Macromedia.[2]
Product history[]
- MacroMind Director 3.0 was released by MacroMind-Paracomp in 1991, solely for Macintosh.[1][3]
- MacroMind Director 3.1 was released by Macromedia in late 1992, adding support for Apple Computer's new QuickTime media technology and expanding the Lingo scripting language. A utility called Gaffer allowed Director movies to be converted to a format that could be played back on Windows-based computers through MacroMind Windows Player.[4]
- Macromedia Director 3.1.3 was released in February 1993.[5] Macromedia Director Player 3.1.3 for Windows was released separately with improved performance and functionality to achieve playback parity with the Macintosh version.[6] Additional players were developed for 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, FM Towns, IRIX, OS/2, and OS-9 (no relation to Apple).
