The project was initially called SoundVision, which was to have graphics, text, and sound capabilities. The media elements were timed by a "score" based on an early implementation of MIDI. At the insistence of the publisher, the graphics features were split off and later became MacroMind VideoWorks. The remaining music and audio application was renamed MusicWorks and distributed by Hayden Software.
