Macromedia Action!, formerly MacroMind Action!, was an early graphical presentation program developed and marketed by Macromedia. It was discontinued in favor of Macromedia Director and Flash.

History[]

Action! began as a simpler "slide"-based presentation program as an alternative to the "stage"-based Director environment. It was the first program for Windows business users that blended sound and motion with text and graphics.[1]

Versions[]

  • Version 1.0.1 for Windows was released in 1991. The Macintosh version was released in early 1992 by MacroMind-Paracomp.[2][3]
  • Version 2.0 for Windows was released later in 1992 by Macromedia and added animated charts with over 100 templates.[1]
  • Version 2.5 for Windows was released in 1993 and added support for analog and digital video.[4]
  • Version 3.0 for Windows was shipped on July 5, 1994.[5][6]

The Macintosh version only reached up to version 1.0.4.[7] "Special Edition" versions of Action! were sometimes bundled with hardware by manufacturers,[8] but were ineligible for upgrades.[9]
